August 2013 saw our family leave a beautiful barn conversion in a great village to undertake a years adventure in our family’s garage conversion. We loved where we were living but wanted to save money for a house of our own and felt that coming to live in the garage would be a wonderful opportunity for us to do just that.
We knew that our move would include some sacrifices, the biggest being living without a bedroom or a bed and sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room instead. It was fine for the first 3 months but after that I got the feeling that sofa beds were not made for every day use. But it was survivable and quickly became a part of normal life. I probably wont miss it though…
They have learned to love showers and sleeping in a bunk bed, the weekday morning rush and singing high school musical on the drive to school, Saturday mornings snuggled on the sofa bed together watching movies and riding their bikes in Grandmas garden.
But what we have gained has been so worth any sacrifice. We have been able to save a deposit for a house, spend wonderful time with our extended family, build relationships that would never have been the same without the move and we have created this blog.
My Kitchen Shed is one of my favourite places in the world. I am gutted to leave it behind but thankful for the wonderful memories I have made and can look back on here on the blog.

- The most important things in life are not things
- You can make any house a home
- You can make and reach goals even when situations aren’t ideal
- Sacrifices are worth making
- The best things in life are free
So, it is the end of an era. The end of blogging life as I know it. It hasn’t always been easy but every day was worth it and I thank every single one of you for making my life here a little easier by sharing your stories with me and for supporting me in my adventure.
I couldn’t have done any of this without my very patient and kind Husband. He has always supported me in everything I have done and helped me to achieve goals and dreams. It doesn’t matter where you live, as long as you have the support and love of people around you, you can survive anything 🙂
